Garden Decking in Oxford

BuildWell Oxford designs and builds garden decking across Oxford, creating usable outdoor space above damp or uneven ground where a patio is not always practical. Whether you want a simple raised platform outside the back door or a larger multi level deck across a sloping garden, we build every deck with proper support and drainage underneath, using timber suited to Oxford's damp winters.

More Information

Designing Your Deck

We start by looking at how you want to use the space, whether that is outdoor dining, seating or simply a level area to enjoy the garden from. Decking is particularly useful on sloping or uneven Oxford gardens, where it can create a flat usable area without the cost of major groundworks required for a patio.

Frame and Support

A deck's strength comes from the frame underneath the boards, so we build a solid substructure using appropriately sized timber, set on concrete footings or post supports depending on the ground and the height of the deck. This substructure is what stops decking bouncing, sagging or rotting prematurely.

Boards and Finishing

Once the frame is in place, we fix the deck boards with even spacing to allow proper drainage and airflow underneath. We finish edges neatly and can add balustrades or steps where needed, particularly on raised decks, so the finished structure is both safe and good looking.

ABOUT US

BuildWell Oxford has built garden decking across the city for many years, working on gardens throughout the OX4 postcode where sloping or damp ground made decking a more practical choice than a patio. A properly built frame underneath is something we never compromise on, whatever the size of the deck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is decking a good option for a sloping Oxford garden?

Yes. Decking is often the most practical solution for sloping gardens in Oxford, since it can create a flat usable area without the extensive groundwork a patio would need on uneven ground.

How long does garden decking last in Oxford?

Well built timber decking can last many years in Oxford's climate, provided the frame is properly constructed and the timber is treated. We can also advise on maintenance to help extend its lifespan.

Do I need planning permission for decking in Oxford?

Most garden decking falls under permitted development rules, though this can depend on the height of the deck and your property type. We can advise on your specific Oxford garden.
